On March 21, 2023, Chasen Petcovic unexpectedly passed away in his sleep. Chasen appeared healthy throughout his life. Just hours before, he was playing first base and pitching for his baseball team. Only after his passing, and through genetic testing, was it determined that Chasen had Brugada Syndrome, a rare, and undiagnosed, heart condition. Two of Chasen’s brothers, as well as his mother, were also diagnosed with the same condition. None of them had exhibited symptoms throughout their lives.
The family spent the next year learning about the condition, educating themselves on how to respond if another event were to happen and equipping their family with an AED device. They were able to use their knowledge and their AED to save the life of Chasen’s brother, Caden, on June 20th of this year, after finding Caden unresponsive. Since then, his mother and two brothers have had ICD’s (Pacemaker/Defibrillator) implanted.
The goal of this event is to raise funds for the “Live Like Chasen Foundation,” a Qualified 501(c)(3) Charity that his family created to continue to honor his larger-than-life personality and build a lifesaving legacy in his memory. Its mission is to help kids survive and thrive through cardiac awareness (detecting heart conditions), education (preparing families to act in the event of an emergency) and providing devices (AED’s) to at risk families. They plan to step in and help families that have suffered from the unexpected loss of a child and all of the challenges (emotional, financial, etc.) that come along with their loss.
“We want to raise awareness, provide support and keep this tragedy from happening to more families.”
